Hi-Ophelia!
March 4 2018 Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, USA
Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble / Tim Wiess – conductor
Hi Ophelia is the title of the third scene in the opera “Ophelias: Death by Waters singing”, by playwright Cecilie Løveid and Henrik Hellstenius. The opera is based on a cross reading of Shakespears Hamlet and the midieval historian Saxos early version of Amled. Hi-Ophelia! is a condesentation of musical material taken from the opera. Composed for the same instrumentation as the opera.
It is an independent work, contemplating and exploring further on the potential of the timbral structures and muscial characters originally composed for the scenes of the opera. Here it is operating as purely musical material. Not following the narrativ or the text of the opera, but creating a dramaturgy of its own.
